Jeanne Hehlen
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Jeanne HehlenFor over 25 years, I’ve worked as a Child and Family Therapist and Deaf Specialist providing counseling and therapy to children, adolescents, and families in an outpatient mental health setting. I also work with adults who want to address complex life issues. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington and have a Child & Family Mental Health Specialist credential.

I received my Master’s degree in Counseling from Western Oregon State College in 1989 and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Oregon College of Education in 1980. I trained master’s level interns for 12 years and can also provide supervision for the Washington Licensed Mental Health Counselor credential.

I have eight years experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and adolescents at Oregon School for Deaf and I am fluent in American Sign Language. In 1989, through a state-funded grant, I developed a program of services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at Washington School for Deaf, which is on-going. I currently provide strengths-based individual and family therapy in school and office settings.

I have a holistic view of therapy, looking to balance the emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of our lives. I have experience and background in working with children through play therapy, counseling for special needs children and families, abuse issues, self-mutilation, trauma-focused work, depression, anxiety, self-image/self-esteem, family/parenting issues and adult issues. I have assisted families to deal with issues, find strengths, problem solve, find resources or to advocate for clients with various agencies.

I have been married for over 30 years. I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, reading, going for walks, and various other interests. Like most people, I have had my share of challenges and losses. Working through difficult times with support and advice has made me resilient, creative, patient and compassionate. I look forward to sharing my path with yours as you deal with the challenges in your life.
